The Neighbourhood
One of the most charming neighbourhoods in Toronto, the St Lawrence area was Toronto’s first industrial district, established as part of the Town of York in the early 1800s when Lake Ontario’s shoreline still came all the way up to Front Street. In fact, Market Wharf derives its name from the fact that it is situated approximately where the old wharves would have been.
In addition to the eponymous Market, the St Lawrence area is home to a delightful array of restaurants, cafes, bistros and bars, unique furniture shops and excellent theatres and cultural centres. The neighbourhood also boasts plenty of park space, wonderful summertime festivals and a wealth of Victorian architecture in addition to an unbeatable proximity to the downtown core.
The Market Wharf extended stay suite is located right across from the St. Lawrence Market, a truly unique place in Toronto that guarantees an exciting day of shopping and exquisite food experience. The market houses countless sellers from local family businesses that share their craft and passion for food. For over 200 years farmers brought their produce to sell at the market on Saturdays, a tradition that continues to this day. On Sundays the North building holds antiques shopping event.
East of St. Lawrence Market, guests can visit the Distillery District, Victorian-era neighbourhood that is home of the renowned Gooderham & Worts whiskey distillery. Spend the day walking through restored red brick streets, taking pictures, shopping and of course tasting local brews.
